Lacuna Coil is an Italian gothic metal band formed in Milan, Italy, in 1996. They were formerly known as Sleep of Right and Ethereal. Lacuna Coil are heavily inspired by gothic imagery, and are known, musically, for composing songs with guitar lines overlayed with keyboard work to help create a melodic sound. However, much of their more recent material sees the band shedding the melody in favor of a more down-tuned style similar to that of some nu-metal bands, coupled with alternating scratchy and light vocals and a bit of pop influence. According to the band, they are influenced by Paradise Lost, Tiamat, Septic Flesh and Type O Negative, among others. (more)
