Delain is a Dutch symphonic metal band. The band was founded by the ex-pianist of Within Temptation, Martijn Westerholt.

Delain was founded by Martijn Westerholt, the ex-pianist and brother of one the founders of Within Temptation, Robert Westerholt. He left Within Temptation in 2001 when he suffered from Pfeiffer's disease. He started Delain in 2002. The band started recording the debut album in July 2005, after they had signed a contract with Roadrunner Records.

The band consists of Martijn Westerholt (keyboard) and Charlotte Wessels (vocals). Furthermore, the live band consists of Ronald Landa (growling and guitar), Rob van der Loo (bass), and Sander Zoer (drums).

For their first album Lucidity they invited several well known musicians: Jan Yrlund from Lacrimosa (guitar), Ariën van Weesenbeek from God Dethroned (drums), Ad Sluijter from Epica (guitar), George Oosterhoek (growling) and Guus Eikens, both formers member of Orphanage, Sharon Den Adel from Within Temptation (vocals), Marco Hietala from Nightwish and Tarot (bass, vocals) and Liv Kristine from Leaves' Eyes (vocals).
