Ill Niño (IPA: ɪl ˈniɲo) is a Latino American six-piece nu metal band from New Jersey in the United States.
Ill Niño formed in late 1999 when they were originally called El Niño (after the tropical storm). They signed with Roadrunner Records in 2000, but were forced to change their name because El Niño was already taken by another band.
They released their debut album titled Revolution Revolución on September 18, 2001. The band was part of the Ozzfest and Jägermeister tours in 2002. The album has sold over 300,000 copies worldwide to-date.
The band followed up with their sophomore effort titled Confession released on October 8, 2003. The album's lead single, "How Can I Live", featured on the Freddy vs. Jason soundtrack, and was subsequently their first single to break into the Billboard charts, peaking at #26 on the Mainstream Rock charts. The album has been the band's most successful to date, selling 200,000 copies in the US and 400,000 worldwide.
The band's third effort titled One Nation Underground was released on September 27, 2005. The album has sold roughly 130,000 copies worldwide to-date.
On June 15, 2006, it was announced that Ill Niño had parted ways with Roadrunner Records. Nine days later they had signed a new deal with Cement Shoes Records. As per Ill Niño's official website, they stated that their split from Roadrunner was "amicable" but felt that they "weren't getting the proper attention and support from Roadrunner that we had gotten on the past 2 releases".
Roadrunner Records released a "best of" CD titled The Best of Ill Niño on September 29, 2006. The album features 13 tracks from their three Roadrunner releases. It, however, will not be released in Europe.
Ill Niño, along with labelmates Godhead and Ra, went on the "Congress of Corruption" US tour, held between September 21-30 2006.
On August 29, 2006, it was revealed that the name of Ill Niño's upcoming EP is titled The Undercover Sessions. The EP will include Faith No More's "Zombie Eaters", Nirvana's "Territorial Pissings" and Peter Gabriel's "Red Rain", along with two brand new Ill Niño tracks, "Arrastra" and "Reservation for Two". It will be released on November 7. The EP was leaked on the 11-03-2006 to Bittorrent.
The band's fourth full-length studio album is due for a spring 2007 release. (Ill Niño - Wikipedia)
